Abstract

Flowcytometric DNA ploidy measurements using paraffin embeded tumor specimen were performed in 102 breast cancer patients.
Fity-four patients(53%) of the cases were diploid, forty-eight(47%) were aneuploid. DI(DAN index) of histogram showed bimodal distriubution and DI value of second peak incidence was 1.6.
Aneuploid tumors were investigated more frequently according to increasing of tumor size and stage, but no significant correlation was found between aneuploid and lymph node metastasis, histologic grade.
Over all survival of patients with aneuploid was lower than that of patients with diploid, but their survival in node negative patients was not significantly different. S-phase and G2M phase fraction were higher in aneuploid group and closely
related to
prognosis in all nodal group.
The patients with small number of positive node and aneuploid appear to require post operative adjuvant chemotherapy. As a result, it seems to worth while to integrate DNA ploidy and other prognostic factors.
